The danger of Baby Shampoo Bette Dowdell
Labels on baby shampoo as well. Sweet. Non-irritating. Any good parent would want. And some pictures of smiling, happy babies to seal an agreement.
Most of these labels do not tell the truth. They can not, because if mothers knew the truth, they would not buy the shampoo.
Why not? Most baby shampoos, shampoos for most all ages, containing sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth as ugly cousins lauryl sulfate or ammonium sulfate.
Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is an industrial solvent with an inexpensive talent for making foam, exactly what we expect to make a shampoo. But SLS caustic really stings when it gets in your eyes, everything that you do not want to baby shampoo.
Thus, manufacturers add a so-called nonionic detergent to numb the eye. In this way, babies do not experience any irritation. Problem solved? Well, no.
Studies show that SLS can cause permanent eye damage. If your baby does not react to SLS, you will not know there is a problem, and you will not flush eyes with water tender. The SLS will, doing damage.
In addition, many of us are allergic to sodium lauryl sulfate and its ugly cousins. The transition to products that do not contain bad addresses frequently unexplained rashes and general discomfort of itchy skin.
How is the rash and itching? The same protein denaturing properties that cause eye damage can also cause inflammation of the skin. layers of the skin is separating from each other. What may be the reason SLS also damage hair follicles.
Consider companies such as shampoos Aubrey Organics, Avalon Organics, Jason Natural Kiss My Face or. No need to worry about SLS and parabens as devastating to a number on your endocrine system. You can get these shampoos in health food stores or online. Online offers a better selection.
Most toothpastes are SLS, too. Tom's of Maine toothpaste has the reputation of natural ingredients, but it contains SLS. I use Kiss My Face Triple Action Gel and love it. I have no connection with the business I love their music. It is available in health food stores or online.
Most cosmetics contain SLS, too, but that's another article for another time. I am talking about babies and children here.
Why am I jumping up and down, shouting at SLS? equivalent of one month of hives that had a course of steroids to clear up, that's why. Do not let this happen to your baby or you.
