Castle Blocks

Cardiff Castle is a heritage site of international renown in Wales. With more than 2000 years of history, this castle was once a Roman fort, a Norman and a monopoly house of Victorian Gothic architecture.
During 55-400 AD, the Romans built a fort in the area which eventually paved the way for the creation of the heritage site. Later, the Normans built a castle and replace their maintenance wood with a version in stone. It was during 1200 and 1350 AD that the Black Tower was built. It was connected to the guard with a huge defensive wall. The Earl of Warwick, Richard Beauchamp built Octagon Tower Hall and Block. In the early 19th century, the castle was transformed into a Gothic palace renaissance.
However, the phase of serious transformation of the castle began in 1868. It was the third Marquis of Bute who ordered William Burges to assume the daunting task of converting the castle to a fantasy of a medieval palace. Burge skills of art and architecture can be seen in many rooms today. House of Lord Bute, Arab room, smoking room and summer the garden on the roof to indicate the new levels of skills.
The Bute family later sold the castle to the city of Cardiff. It now houses the regimental museum and is a major tourist attraction.
Located in Cardiff, the capital of Wales, the castle is the largest conservation project in the region. The conservation project now is estimated at £ 8,000,000. The Heritage Lottery Fund has supported this project by adding a £ 5.7 million grant. Cadw and Visit Wales have also extended their support for this conservation project size that includes various aspects such as strengthening the Roman masonry and conservation of the collection of art that are hung on the walls.
