Clay Shooting

Clay ShootingCan I use a shotgun for shooting clay?

I'm starting to trap. I'm looking to buy a new gun for that purpose, but the sources I've seen recommend automatic loading double barrel (side by side or o / u) gun for shooting trap. But they are generally much more expensive than shotguns. Can I get a shotgun for shooting trap?

To answer your question bluntly, yes.

But there is no such thing as an "autoloading double. A double is a double (SxS or O / U) - an autoloader is an autoloader. Most models are trap Over / Under (apart from an odd-couple bullets)

Any kind of target model or hunting rifle on the ground / will (sawed-offs, and riot guns obviously not a realistic choice for clays).

Trap guns are generally long, heavy, get high, and are either straight or Monte Carlo combs high on the stock - not mentioned at least stifled day, but generally more stringent. Skeet and sporting clays, on the other hand, tend to use a field gun type, which is near flat with a comb drop, and stifles open.

There are currently pumps trap model. Look for a Remington 870 trap or an old Winchester Model 12 trap. More than a trapshooter champion won with a pump, whether single, double, or disability.

Whatever you get, make sure it has interchangeable chokes and comes with, or attached full, Improving modified or updated to trick them.

What you win with a double (over / under) is two different choke contrictions (one in each barrel), no possibility of jams, not the bike, and very fast lock time.

With a car or if you have to get used to pump or pump it or let it ring (Remington 1100 semi-auto can be very slow and clumsy - I can not take a double because I am in Waiting for him to feed the second shell when I go for my second target). Then you have the problem of hitting the next shot over with your empty bottles (something that does not bother me, but most people do), and the possibility of jams, not for food, and the old Chuck double double .

Nevertheless, a pump is an excellent choice for shooting trap. They are inexpensive compared to other firearms, simple, durable, and end of work.

Once again I suggest finding a TRAP Remington 870, Winchester Model 12 TRAP, or even a Browning BPS TRAP. The more you pull, the more you appreciate the characteristics of a specific weapon trap.

Do not see why not, you can still hold many cartridges ...

Yes you can. I have seen many, many shooters use pumps skeet shooting

I saw many clay shooters using the pump shotgun with a great success. If you can shoot well, there is no reason to pay $ 1,000, $ 2,000 - up to $ 5,000 (and more) for a fancy O / U

Some contests may limit yourself to only two rounds loaded. Practice, practice, practice. Just practice - even if you do not compete - is where the fun is. Enjoy.

In most cases yes, most of the time it limits only how many shells you can load.
I shoot sporting clays for fun with friends.
I never wanted to get a competition, other than for pleasure.
In sporting clays I shoot a pump or an O / U.

Pumps are fine weapons and the practice might work well for clays. I used a pump to previous years, I spent the $ for a O / U. My son prefers a pump.
As with any sport, the more practice the better.
Above all, enjoy.

Huh? Wait a minute. . . "An automatic loading double barrel"??? I want one of them. What a hoot this weapon would be!

Absolutely you can!

Anyone who told you otherwise is a fool. I do not know where they are this "self-loading side by side or over / under" shit, not as animated.
