Plagiocephaly

My son is 8 months old has a flatness to the back of his head, called plagiocephaly ... and goes in the DOC Band in two weeks. I was wondering if anyone out there has a child or if you know a child who has experienced the same thing? Any pointers or suggestions? How did you handle the looks and comments from other people? Have you seen a significant improvement? Did you paint yours? If you did, how did you do? Thank you!

My son had brachiocephily (sp?). same kind of thing, it was symmetrical flattening the back of his head. He had to wear a helmet for 5 months. 23 hours / day. We "weened" him on the helmet for having wear and hour or two at a time, little work until 23 hours. He has adapted very well. Fortunately, at that age, they do not feel embarrassed, like we would. I ignored the looks. Many people just want to ask about it, and then I want to explain what it was about.After few weeks, I just wanted to print a brochure to hand to people when they asked. I got sick of explaining the thing several times.
Many people said: "Oh, your son are captured? I got so tired of that question! We have seen a significant improvement and we are very happy we went through. It was sometimes difficult, but it is important to get this fixed.
We do not have to paint, we were able to order from a selection of colors and patterns. We ended up choosing a model very bright tie-dye! We thought that if people would look, can thus be bold about it. People thought it was very cute.
Good luck! Stand firm in the process and remember that it will be worth at the end and this phase is just a blink of an eye in the full spectrum of your child's life.

You taught me something today. Although I've never known plagiocephaly. Ive seen many children with the DOC group. The parents I saw a little decoration on the tape. As for the looks and comments that I look, I let my children know that the child is no different than any other and that the child has special needs.

Ignore the looks I still talk with the mother and even say hello to the child. No one can ever take away the love you have for your child ignore Thei suggest you stay strong you are the mom and Aiden lucky to have you.
