Having your child cut out various shapes and objects is a great way to help develop fine motor skills.
Of course, if you allow your children or preschoolers to do this activity you must ensure they use safe good "child" scissors still making cuts in all materials.
Here's a fun preschool learning activity that you can use with your child to help them thrive in these specific areas of growth.
Keep a collection of old magazines, newspapers or flyers that are full of pictures of people with different expressions, etc.
Ask children to choose a magazine or newspaper, so look through and find pictures of people's faces showing different expressions.
They can find pictures of happy faces, sad faces, surprised faces, angry faces, scared faces and much more.
The child can then "cut" all the faces they find using the "child safe scissors of course, and they can discuss each different image with the parent or the teacher and discuss what 'they see in the expression of the person.
Another option for pre-school activity:
You might even have children just to find and cut a certain expression, or what "they" consider a certain expression.
For example, you could tell them to find pictures of happy faces and see what they offer, you may be surprised at what they are!
It is good to keep these images and paste a piece of card stock or construction paper, then laminate it. You can then copy them all and put them in a box or envelope!
This will make the images for years so they can be used again and again many ways to teach children.
You can even use these different faces and expressions and have children "whole group" similar expressions, as well as a battery.
Another great activity for children to learn spelling and easy reading or word recognition would have a few different images (4-6) at.
You can then names of expressions written on a piece of paper or a label (for example) happy, sad, angry, etc.
You may have the child (ren) in the image correspond to the floor. It's great for just reading and recognition of everyday words that express emotion.
