Study Skills GamesThe best 7 Study Skills for ESL learners

Study English as a second language is difficult. Whether you're doing homework, go over notes, or study for a test, study techniques of good will to help you make the most of your time and effort. The best students are usually those who have mastered the best study skills, such as:

1. Make a study plan. Decide in advance what areas you want to study, or what topics you need to review. If you have a plan, you will feel overwhelmed. The act of writing what must be done so you can check later allows your brain to worry about remembering those tasks, and frees your mind so you can focus on your work.

2. Set goals. In drafting the plan of study, set small goals that are easy to reach and reward yourself. Studying for 20-30 minutes, then 5-10 minutes to take a break and study for another 20-30 minutes is more effective than studying for an hour without a break. It's much easier to stay focused when we know that a break and treatment are coming!

3. Keep your body well nourished. Your mind will wander and you'll have more trouble concentrating when you're hungry or tired. Take regular meals and enough sleep, even when studying for an exam - while it may feel like drinking coffee and staying up all night will help you master the material, it does not. Your brain needs rest to function properly.

4. Choose your place of study carefully. Some people consider the best in the library, some prefer a table in a coffee shop, others prefer to be alone in their rooms, and still others believe that the study with a partner or small group to help them learn. However, nobody will be focused on hardware try to investigate if their roommate plays loud music or their child throwing a tantrum. Find a place where you have few distractions as possible, and are comfortable, but not so comfortable that you are likely to take a nap!

5. Turn off the technology. SMS, IMing, chatting on the phone, and are not tweeting
things you should do when studying! Use the break discussed in Council No. 2 of the text, talk, or tweets, and turn off your phone during the study periods. If you use a computer, do not turn on your instant messaging program during a study period - your friends can wait until your stay to hear you!

6. Play. When you study alone, try to use mnemonic devices to remember things - my mother just served us nine pizzas can help students remember the order of the planets. Similarly rhymes can help - "When two vowels are walking, the first does not speak" to remind you that a word like fear has a long e. If you study with others, playing games words with flash cards, or create your own game can help the lesson stay in your head.

7. Do not give up. English is a language filled with exceptions, and ESL classes are not easy. It is tempting to give up when the work becomes difficult and the workload becomes overwhelming. However, you can do it! Divide the work into more manageable sections, and be persistent. Go through the sections at a time, with regular breaks and rewards, and you find it faster than you thought you could!
