Toddler Pillow

Toddler PillowBaby Pillows - Should I give my child a pillow?

As adults, it is perfectly normal and expected that we use a pillow when we sleep. Indeed, sleep without a pillow can be very painful and leave us waking up with stiff neck or perhaps even stopping us getting to sleep in the first place.

It is therefore not surprising that many parents wonder if their child would also be more comfortable if given a baby pillow.

The answer to the question whether, depending on the age of your child, and where they sleep .......

If your child is younger than two years, a pillow is definitely not recommended. A child under that age will not normally need support to his head and, especially, there is always a risk of choking on the pillow. In addition, if your child is still a young age, but began to climb, crawl or walk, then the pillow could be used as an aid to climbing out of bed.

Therefore, most research indicates that, normally, a pillow should not be considered until the baby is at least two years and can not sleep in a crib but has progressed to a bed for young children.

Even if your child is a little older but it is not always necessary for them to use a pillow. If they are sleeping without a pillow so it is probably not necessary to introduce one.

If and when you decide to give your child a pillow, make sure it is a real baby pillow "sleep" rather than the one you already have in your home. The pillow should be firm enough that the child can not sink into sleep and it all being smothered or suffocated. It should also be lower than a regular adult pillow, possibly around the size of a travel pillow and be easily washable for when your child has those little accidents. If your child suffers from allergies, you can also buy a baby pillow that is non-allergenic

If you are still unsure whether the time is ripe to introduce a baby pillow bed for your child, you may consider talking to your physician for input or just waiting until your child is indeed a pillow or shows signs of trouble sleeping on a flat bed.
