How to make a tricorn hat Marie Antoinette? I really need help. I want to make a hat of Marie Antoinette Tricorn style to go with my costume. But I'm not sure. Any how-to's? Or instructions?
The tricorn is just a plain wide-brimmed hat with folded edges to the crown. If you can get such a felt hat, just tinkering at the edge of flexion - try the first three corners equilateral, then try to bend the back with two smaller folds front left and right, until you get an effect that you want. You can set the hat or with a backing of felt or simply by stitching on the crown.
If you can not or can not afford a hat made of felt, cut a large circle of black card or cartridge paper to test the cocking "of the brim. Once you have the way you want, at a pinch you can make a wreath with a piece of black cloth.
A tricorn 18th century would have had a cockade on the left eye, made of a piece of ribbon folded tightly in a circle - it's easy to do. There could be a gold button or (for women) the right pin in the middle of the roundel, and a woman there may be a plume of ostrich feathers attached behind it.
