Walk America

Walk AmericaHow can I walk across America?

Its been my dream to walk across America. Does anyone know of any organization or groups that are a foot across America that I may be able to join. Or any other resources to help me achieve my dream

I am in the midst of planning and training for my spring 2009 Trail through the Appalachian-stop, so I am fairly knowledgeable on the subject of long distances
The important things
* The concept of zero days.
ZDS is exactly what they look like: they are days when, for whatever reason, you walk to zero miles. You must include them in your planning, you should anticipate and be aware that too many or too few of them raise Cain on your logistics.
You've also got to know the difference between MPH average and the average mph
* There is a huge difference between the roads you can safely and legally and walk on the roads you can drive on
Personally, I multiply by at least 2 whatever the driving distance that I had for my planned route.
Also I'd like to rent a car for two weeks and lead every inch of my planned route to take detailed notes and talk to whom I was talking on the way
* Our technology adapter lets you use GPS to bury the drinking water, earth caches along the most remote stretches our intended route and then be able to easily find, in due course.
The abilty to do so can be a life saver
* I know someone will do some theoretical and idealized miles per day depending on the number mph But the reality here is that you always walk where you spent last night at the place where you'll spend tonight .
Sometimes the reality matches the profile mpd and sometimes it does not work and you have to adjust accordingly
* If I did the numbers on your walk 6,000 miles I would use my reference number for the distance @ 150 miles per week, as my reference number for the rate that would give me about 40 weeks of running time
Let me start at Santa Monica Pier, 3 / 1 and essentially follow Rt 66 Tucumcari NM, finding 50 to 54 and then MD Ocean City that I would some time ago in the first two weeks of December
Good luck

Apart from the idea of ZDS there is also another important concept in the long-distance hiking world known Hike Your Own Hike
HYOH said that while you get an incredible number of tips on how you should go do things, ultimately it is your ride and you'll have to define your own rules for how you will do according to your own facts

your feet would be like all the dead walking you do

Stay away from heavy traffic areas or you'll die of diesel fumes

success

I would like to join you. I am in Chicago. I think it would be great! Do you think we would still pay tolls?

organize your own charity hospital

Forrest Run Run !!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck;)

There is a orgization called "Walk Across America" Just visit this site.
And its operation until October 31.2008 so check it out.

No, but it's a really cool idea

walk across America (east or west way from Mexico to Canada. Thats a big difference or do you make a circle around the border (thats harder) taking into account all these variables is difficult.

Im not sure of the organization, but you can easily do it, but it will take some careful planning and thinking of all you can take more than a year (if you want to take a break somewhere.)

an organization called "the longest walk" started in Cali. and ended in Raleigh, North Carolina.

they came to where I live Supai, Arizona while they were on their way:)

you must calculate each day's walk, but two years is a minimum of three years and are likey to, even if you're too picky. Are you lying.
