Year 6 Maths Games

Year 6 Maths GamesMathematical games can help all students

In every mathematics classroom, there are those students who come do not seem to be able to grasp the concepts. Some outright hate math. How can these students be reached? A technique that can work is to motivate students with interactive math games they play at their own pace.

math games do not replace the need for a teacher. There is nothing that educational software can teach in math that can be taught without a teacher. Math is one of those subjects that really requires an instructor. However, mathematical games can be used to reinforce and reward in the math.

Imagine if you are a teacher in junior high math and realize that some of your students do not know how to add and subtract. If you must take valuable time from class to teach these basic skills in elementary mathematics, the rest of your students will suffer. However, if this group of students is not able to do simple addition or subtraction, they will be fighting all year. One way to encourage them to exercise in a fun, competition without compromising the overall class is to enable them to play mathematical games. Perhaps devote the last 10 minutes of class to free time. Students working at ground level can have a capacity to start their homework, and students who need extra practice can play math games. You can configure the math games so you can concentrate on areas students need to practice. You can make random groups and rotate them so that all your students the chance to play during the week. In this way, some students are not identified and all students receive important practice.

One advantage of mathematical games which is often overlooked is the fact that students work independently. Sometimes those students who struggle in the subjects, especially math, are embarrassed about their difficulties. If you were to play a game or practice group to ask them to answer questions orally, they may be too embarrassed to do their best. On the computer, however, these students are not confronted with their peers. They may progress through the math games at their level, acquire valuable hands every day.

As you shop for mathematical games, you need to realize that there is a wide range of products available. You can always find games traditional mathematics. These are games where students practice their basic data with programming arcade type. But math games are just games arcade style you may remember. You can find software that contains cartoons of your favorite students or movie characters. As they move through the levels, they must answer math questions to proceed. Some math games software monitors student progress and customize lessons. Students advance levels once they have achieved competence in the skills being developed. Some math games have features that encourage and strengthen analytical skills, problem approach, logic and systematic thinking. If students can not realize this is math, you know that these thinking skills are essential to finding success in the subject. You can even purchase mystery programs where students act as detectives solving "math mysteries."

Whichever program you decide to use mathematics in your classroom, remember to make time where students can play math games. Everyone, from gifted students to those who struggle, can benefit from playing with numbers, and the computer is a great way to get there. With math games, math can become a little more fun for everyone.
